Cafe Oliv
Hey guys! We’re back again and this time we’ve gone up a notch and visited a restaurant. It’s Cafe Oliv situated at 220 East Coast Road.
There wasn’t much of a crowd when we went there, in fact there were so little people that we were apprehensive about going in.
But heck, since we were already there and Aston’s is closed, we decided to go in anyway.
The interior is simple but gives warm and comfortable feeling. The waitress who served us is polite and attentive. There are 2 wall mounted LCD TVs so you won’t miss your favourite show while eating there.
As it was nearing 9pm we quickly looked through the menu and placed our orders. The beautiful menu was nicely designed and had all the informati0n about the food they offered. You can really see the effort they put into it.
Okay, so we went ahead and placed our orders and before we knew it the food came.
First is the German Chicken Cheese Sausage Platter!
As you can see it’s not really a platter. Just 2 pieces of sausages. The meat inside was well seasoned and the serving is pretty big although it looks small in the picture.
Here’s a close up shot
After that our mains came one after another.
Pink Cream Warm Salmon Linguine!
Peng Boon: The sauce for this dish is kinda a mix between a carbonara and bolognese sauce, blend in tastefully. As you can see from the picture, the Salmon they provided was realli a huge piece. (Worth every pennies) I would say this dish is really unique, though it wouldn’t be a all time favourite for most pasta lovers, but is worth a try because of its unique taste and creativity. The thin crust pizza’s crust was really good, as for the ingredient was so~so. As for the beef stew, i think we will let Scavenger Aron to give his view on it, since he manage to gobble up the rice in a few minutes! Anyway the restaurant really have good service and a rather pleasant environment to dine in. (3.5/5) Not bad, worth going back again.
Traditional Beef Stew w/ Rice!
Aron: Gonna say thanks to Boon for calling me a scavenger… (*;*)” There’s a reason for me to gobble up so fast mah… For the Traditional Beef Stew w/ Rice, the rice itself is really fragrant and is SO GOOD… YOU CAN EVEN EAT IT ON IT’S OWN!(aka Gardenia bread advert.) The stew gravy is slightly thick and the sweet & sourish taste is just nice, not too strong for my liking… The main ingredients are beef cubes, potatoes and carrots with a garnishing of English parsley(it’s bitter though, unlike Chinese parsley… haha!) The beef is sooo tender, you can almost feel it melting when you pop them in your mouth…(oops… a bit exaggerated… :p) Potatoes and carrots were cooked to a smooth texture… Downside is they were kinda miser ’bout the amount of rice… Overall I will give it a 4/5… For Boon’s Salmon Linguine, I only tried the fish slice… not the pasta… haha… The cream sauce blended in well with the fish… The skin’s a bit charred which I like cos it has a smoky taste… As for WeeLin’s Seafood Margarita Pizza, I have to agree with Boon… the ingredients were OK only… But the cheese is good… Ideal for sharing with another if you just want a light snack… About the cafe atmosphere, it’s quite comfy and 2 wall-perched LCD tellies will greet you once you step inside… I can tell they are not racists though cos both Channel 5 & 8 were tuned in… haha… Quiet and homely feel(maybe bcos few ppl that time) I will give a 4/5 for the cafe ambience…
Yours Truly,
AroN
Seafood Margarita Pizza!
Wee Lin: Generous amounts of ingredients and the crust is thin so you get more seafood in every bite! The smell of the cheese attacked my nostrils the moment it landed on the table, it’s hard to resist using your hands to pull out a slice and sending it into your mouth immediately. It smells that good or maybe it’s because I’m too hungry =P And the portion’s pretty big so you can either have it as a main or you can order 1 to share around among 3-4 people.
I’ll leave it to the rest of them to write for their own orders.
And did i mention there’s no GST or service charge? You pay the price you see on the menu! All in all, a 3.5/5 for the whole experience from yours truly.
Till next time peeps!
Geylang Revisited
After out first outing to Geylang we were hooked and thus we’re back again!
Firstly we tasted the famous Beef Hor Fun! $5 a plate is pretty expensive. I almost repeated the mistake of ordering 4 person’s share again, thanks to Aron it didn’t happen.
Notice there’s only 2 pairs of chopsticks and spoons cos we only ordered 2 person’s share. But the auntie knew we had 4 person. Thumbs down for service and trying to cheat me.
Check out the sweet shiny texture of the hor fun
Super close up, looks like sewage, haha.
3/5 for the crappy service
Next we went next door to Yong He. We ordered the same things as the last time except there was shao bing this time.
The Oyster Mee Sua still takes the cake for us this time. Totally heavenly with the vinegar. The Shao Bing is pretty good too although i think it’s abit oily.
Peng Boon: I must say that the oyster Mee Sua was really good. A must try although the shop is famous for their You Tiao and Soya bean milk. Please don’t say Shi Lin’s oyster Mee Sua is nice till you tried their Oyster Mee Sua. Thumbs up.
